Barnet Synagogue announces new rabbinic couple
Rabbi Dr Samuel Landau & Rebbetzen Ma’ayan Shoshana Landau have accepted the position pending a vote from members.
Barnet United synagogue has announced the appointment of a new rabbinic couple.
Rabbi Dr Samuel Landau & Rebbetzen Ma’ayan Shoshana Landau were asked to fill the role and have accepted, pending a vote from the community’s members.
Taking to Twitter, the synagogue said: “We are delighted to finally announce that, conditional on the Community vote, Rabbi Dr Samuel Landau & Rebbetzen Ma’ayan Shoshana Landau have been asked, & have accepted, the appointment as Rabbinic couple to Barnet Synagogue”
Rabbi Landau was born and raised in London and holds a professional doctorate in clinical psychology. He held a number of community positions in England, most recently as Rabbi of Kingston Synagogue with his wife, with whom he has two young children.
Currently undertaking advanced rabbinic studies at the Jerusalem Kollel, a rabbinic institution in Israel training leaders, he also teaches at Midreshet Tehillah, a seminary located in the city. As well as training to become a communal leader, he has a small private practice as a clinical psychologist and is a keen cyclist, singer, flautist and thespian.
Rebbetzen Shoshana was brought up in Australia, where she started work with early as a teacher for the Board of Jewish Education. She also worked in property investment and development, before taking up communal positions.
She was a graduate of the Chief Rabbi’s Ma’ayan programme, and is interested in female involvement and representation within Orthodox Judaism. While in Israel, she has hosted talks and taught at Midreshet Tehillah seminary.
