A BBC Panorama documentary this evening will highlight how leaders of a far-right group grill would-be members on their reading, including Hitler’s Mein Kampf.

The Base, a neo-Nazi outfit whose Russia-based leader was last year revealed by the BBC as 47-year old American Rinaldo Nazzaro, is the subject of tonight’s documentary after secret recordings were obtained.

The recordings show video-call interviews of prospective members and were given to US-based human rights organisation, the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Candidates are tested on their ideological commitment to the white supremacist cause, with leaders asking them if they have read the Nazi Party leader’s 1925 manifesto Mein Kampf, which details Hitler’s hatred of Jews.

Among a host of other questions, would-be members – including several from the UK – are asked about their ethnicity and prior experience with weapons.
