Edgware primary school Beit Shvidler rated ‘good’ in latest Ofsted inspection

A Jewish primary school in Edgware has been rated “good” by Ofsted inspectors, having previously been deemed to “require improvement.”

Inspectors, who visited Beit Shvidler Primary School from March 19 to 20, said that “across the school, pupils make strong progress.

“Teaching develops their knowledge effectively and inspires them to work hard. Leaders and staff continuously seek ways to improve the quality of pupils’ learning.”

Ofsted inspectors described the school’s curriculum as “broad and stimulating” and said it contributes “effectively to both pupils’ academic outcomes and their personal development.”

The school was rated “requires improvement” in 2017 across leadership and management, quality of teaching, behaviour of pupils, outcomes for pupils and early years provision.

Inspectors concluded at the time that “high staff turnover has caused uncertainty for some pupils and their parents.

“Some pupils do not find their work challenging enough.

“At times, teaching does not enable them to make sufficient progress in their learning.”

Beit Shvidler Primary School appointed a new leadership team, with headteacher rabbi Jonny Spector taking up the reins following the inspection in 2017.

Chair of governors Dan Wynne said: “The governing body is extremely proud to see that the hard work of rabbi Spector, the SLT and all of the staff at Beit Shvidler Primary School has been recognised by Ofsted’s ‘good’ assessment of our school.  

“May the school continue to go from strength to strength as we focus on continual improvement, high attainment and progress in all areas.“
