Benjamin Netanyahu confirms Israel hit Iranian target in Syria
Israeli PM says the IDF struck an Iranian arms warehouse at Syria’s international airport in Damascus over the weekend
Israel’s Air Force attacked an Iranian arms warehouse at Syria’s international airport in Damascus over the weekend, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed.
“The IDF attacked Iranian and Hezbollah targets hundreds of times,” Netanyahu also confirmed on Sunday morning at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting.
“Just in the last 36 hours the air force attacked Iranian warehouses with Iranian weapons at the international airport in Damascus. The accumulation of recent attacks proves that we are determined more than ever to take action against Iran in Syria, just as we promised,” Netanyahu also said.
He made the statements while paying tribute to IDF Chief of Staff, Lt.-Gen Gadi Eisenkot, who on Tuesday will step down after four years in the position and 40 years in the IDF.
On Friday night, the Syrian military told the official state-run SANA news agency that the country’s air defence systems intercepted missiles fired by Israel. Sana reported that more eight targets were hit and that some of the Israeli missiles had been intercepted. One of the Israeli airstrikes hit the Iranian weapons’ warehouse facility.
Israel’s military neither confirmed nor denied the attacks after they were launched.
