Billboards brand Labour a ‘home for Holocaust denial’ and a ‘vote for racism’
More than £7,700 was raised to have three political messages touring through the streets of London and Manchester
Three billboards appeared across London and Manchester today branding Labour a “home for Holocaust denial and terrorist supporters”.
Inspired by Oscar-nominated film ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ the initiative was launched by Jewish activists, who call themselves the ‘Community United against Labour Party Antisemitism’, or Culpa.
They raised more than £7,745 in a crowdfunding campaign involving 223 supporters, with adverts appearing today.
The billboards carried the messages: “A vote for Labour is a vote for racism”, “Keep antisemitism out of Downing Street” and “Labour is a home for Holocaust denial and terrorist supporters.”.
In London, the boards appeared in Chingford, Bernie Grant arts centre, Seven Sisters, Tottenham, Finsbury Park, Holloway Road, Hamstead, Swiss Cottage, Park Lane, The Mall, Oxford Street,Regent Street and Parliament Square. In Manchester, they were at Media City, Cheetham Hill Road, Oldham and elsewhere.
Culpa ran a similar stunt in April 2018 with the billboards being driven past Labour’s London HQ, criticising the party for not tackling the issue of Jew-hate.
Labour under Jeremy Corbyn has faced criticism over an alleged failure to tackle antisemitism, which led Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis to write a column in the Times this week, warning about the “poison” of them getting into power on 12 December.
It is currently being investigated by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission over claims of institutional antisemitism.
Fiona Sharpe, spokesman for Labour Against Antisemitism said: “We extend our solidarity and support to this act of grassroots activism. It is a campaign being carried out because the organisers believe the British electorate need to be told the truth: that the Labour Party is institutionally racist against Jews”.
