Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds wished ‘hearty mazeltov’ on birth of their son

Communal groups have congratulated Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his partner Carrie Symonds on the birth of their son.

A spokeswoman for the PM and his partner said both mother and baby are “doing very well” after the birth in a London hospital on Wednesday morning

The Board of Deputies wished “a hearty mazaltov to @BorisJohnson  and Carrie Symonds on the birth of their son this morning. We’re glad to hear that mother and baby are doing well.”

The Jewish Leadership Council tweeted: “Mazal tov to @BorisJohnson  and @carriesymonds  on the birth of their son!”

Meanwhile, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis said: “Warmest congratulations to the Prime Minister and to Ms Symonds on the birth of their son today. May he be blessed with a lifetime of joy and fulfilment”.

Michael Goldstein, President of the United Synagogue, said: “We wish mazal tov and congratulations to the TWO new dads today! Rabbi Yoni Golker of St Johns Wood United Synagogue, and Mr Boris Johnson of 10 Downing Street – and mazal tov and congratulations to the mums Rebbetzen Dina Golker and Ms Carrie Symons. We hope you and the babies are doing well!”

Israel’s president Reuven Rivlin took to Twitter to send warm wishes: “Many congratulations to Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds on the birth of their son! The people of #Israel, today celebrating #IsraelIndependenceDay, send our warmest wishes to you and all your families.”

Opposition figure Yair Lapid said: “Congratulations to @BorisJohnson  and Carrie Symonds on the birth of your son. It is deeply symbolic of your friendship and support for Israel that your son is born on our Independence Day.”

The news of the birth comes just weeks after the PM was discharged from intensive care where he had been battling coronavirus.
Ms Symonds also suffered symptoms of the disease.
