Aish UK has distributed Rosh Hashana boxes and materials to more than 35,000 homes around the world, the organisation announced this week.

The High Holy Days box had the option of including an explanatory machzor for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, a child-friendly children’s service booklet for families with young children, a guide to simanim (special foods to be eaten at Rosh Hashana); an Aish card game and a poster, plus a Rosh Hashana gift of apple tea, apple bar and honey; and a copy of the latest Aish magazine, featuring an exclusive interview with Rabbi Lord Sacks.

People could choose what they wanted in their boxes and the cost varied according to the contents. In total, Aish say, “we created and distributed over 66,300 items to more than 35,000 families across four continents”.

Recipients were mostly in the UK, with packages being sent both physically and digitally to the US, South Africa, Australia, Canada, and Mexico.

Stacked boxes went mainly to families in the UK but also – physically and virtually across the world, including to the US, South Africa, Australia, Canada, and Mexico

The boxes were particularly popular with people who were unable to go to synagogue because of the pandemic.

One grateful recipient said: “I can honestly say that using this guide allowed me to find great meaning in my new year prayers and I am truly grateful for this.”

I would like you to know how appreciative I am and I’m sure I am speaking on behalf of many others who were not able to get to shul this year.”
