Bradford Jewish leader, 94, to discuss experience of fleeing Nazis
Berlin-born Rudi Leavor will speak with former Labour member of parliament Dame Louise Ellman in a free-to-join online event
A 94-year old leader of Bradford’s Jewish community who fled Nazi Germany in 1937 is to discuss his experiences of antisemitism with former Labour MP Dame Louise Ellman in a free-to-join online conversation next week.
Rudi Leavor, who left Berlin with his parents and sister aged 11, made a home in Yorkshire where he became a dentist. Aged 86, he led a huge renovation of Bradford’s Grade II listed synagogue with the help of the local Muslim population.
It is the latest in a series of talks organised by Huddersfield’s Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre on themes such as transnational Jewish identities, material memory, diversifying Holocaust Studies and modern-day antisemitism.
