Braverman criticises ‘absurd’ claims that Israel has been withholding Gaza aid

Suella Braverman has said it is “absurd and, frankly, an insult” to Israel to suggest it has been withholding aid from the population of Gaza.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, the former home secretary was asked if she believed Israel was breaching international humanitarian law with its conduct in the region, as it fights to defeat Hamas.

Braverman, who has visited Israel this week, and met with ministers there replied:”Absolutely not.

“The suggestion itself is absurd and, frankly, an insult to Israel who have been going above and beyond the necessary requirements to ensure that civilian casualties are limited, to ensure that aid is received onto the Gaza Strip and distributed.”

She continued:”I have seen evidence myself, in terms of very up-to-date photographic evidence, of plentiful food packages and trucks of food, water and medicines getting to the people of Gaza.”

Braverman had been in Israel to tour sites impacted by the October 7th Hamas terror atrocity.

She was photographed shedding tears at the site of the Supernova music festival targeted by Hamas.

“I am angry when I see the backsliding by countries like the US and UK. This is not a time for walking away,” Braverman said in an interview with the Telegraph newspaper.

She added: “This is a time for strengthening our support for Israel.”On Wednesday, Braverman posted a photograph of herself meeting with Israeli ministers on X, formerly known as Twitter.

She wrote:”Today I met with senior military & political figures in Israel to discuss the war in Gaza and the tragic strike on the aid convoy. My thoughts & prayers go out to the family and friends of those killed. This was a terrible mistake for which Israel has rightly apologised.”
