H&M issues recall and apology over skull T-shirt

The T-shirt design led to consumers voicing concern on Twitter

High-street retailer H&M has issued an apology and an immediate recall of a design of T-shirt showing a skull in a Star of David, with a red ‘warning’ triangle.

Jewish consumers had voiced concern that the design was offensive and clothing giant H&M took action on Monday.

In a statement, it said: “We appreciate the concerns regarding the image and would like to assure you that it was of course never our intention to cause upset.”

A spokesperson added: “Please accept our most sincere apologies that this has caused offence. We understand the criticism and in response to this have decided to remove the t-shirt from all stores with immediate effect.”

The T-shirt retailed for £7.99 and the company confirmed that all future and pending deliveries had now been stopped.

It is as yet unclear how many T-shirts are to be removed or over how many stores.
