The Israeli embassy in London has joined a strike of diplomats around the globe as protests around a judicial overhaul reach unprecedented levels.

The unprecedented decision comes as the Israeli Consul General in New York, Asaf Zamir, announced his resignation last night following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s firing of Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.

Israel’s embassy in Washington DC also announced it would join the strike and close the embassy “until further notice.”

The diplomatic strikes come after the head of the Histadrut labour federation announced a “historic” strike on Monday. “We are all worried about Israel’s fate. Together we say, enough!. We have lost our way — this is not about left or right. We can no longer polarise the nation,”Histadrut chief Arnon Bar-David said.

Ben-Gurion airport was also paralysed by a mass strike among workers. Universities, daycares, malls and shops also joined the mass strike, according to Israeli media.
