Brigitte Bardot slammed for ‘deeply offensive slur’ on shechita
European Jewish leaders have blasted the former actress Brigitte Bardot for a “deeply offensive slur” after citing a letter from her in which she urges the French government to ban shechita, or kosher slaughter.
Officials from the European Jewish Congress said: “Ms Bardot’s depiction of shechita as ‘ritual sacrifice’ is not only deeply offensive and a slur against the Jewish people, but also shows a stunning lack of knowledge.”
Former French sex symbol and film star Bardot is married to her fourth husband, Bernard d’Ormale, who was an adviser to Jean-Marie Le Pen, the ex-leader of the far-right party Front National.
