Parents and staff at two United Synagogue nurseries were celebrating this week after being awarded a “Good” rating by Ofsted.

The nursery at Bushey United Synagogue – known as Bushey Gan – earned a ‘Good’ for its Leadership and Management, Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development.

And Chigwell and Hainault United Synagogue Nursery earned a ‘Good’ for its Leadership and Management, Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development.

In it’s report on the Bushey Gan, Ofsted said that “children make good progress in a lively, welcoming and engaging environment”.

Bushey Gan staff were singled out for praise by Ofsted. The regulator said that “staff clearly enjoy working with the children and understand their needs well” and that “staff who work with children are ambitious about children’s abilities and plan activities that underpin their good progress.”

Ofsted also noted the arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Ofsted reported that “parents praise how staff keep in touch with them and state that they receive lots of useful information about their children.”

Rabbi Nick Kett, Bushey United Synagogue’s Community Rabbi, said: “We are delighted with the recent Ofsted ‘Good’ rating we received for the Bushey Gan.

“It is testimony to the hard work, dedication and diligence of our teaching team under the direction of Michelle Peters, our head. Bushey Gan has been in the heart of our shul for well over 40 years and has established us as a key provider of the early years’ curriculum to the local Jewish community.”

And when reporting back on the Chigwell and Hainault Nursery Ofsted said that “children show confidence as they enter Nursery and are eager to take part in activities. Staff are enthusiastic, showing children they are happy to see them as they usher them into the building.”

Ofsted also noted safeguarding arrangements were effective. Parents commented that “their children were very happy and staff care about them”.

Melanie Kaye, Nursery Manager, said: “Chigwell and Hainault Nursery staff and parents are delighted with their rating after the recent Ofsted inspection.

“This is a true reflection of the hard work and commitment of the nursery staff team who work diligently to provide a safe, warm and fulfilling environment for the children to attend and flourish.
