Charity Commission closes Jeremy Newmark case

The Charity Commission has closed its case following allegations of improper conduct and financial impropriety by ex Jewish Leadership Council chief Jeremy Newmark, annual accounts revealed.

The Jewish Leadership Council’s report, published this week, said the Government department that regulates registered charities has closed its case on claims Newmark improperly spent thousands’ worth of pounds in the months before his resignation.

Newmark, who was at the helm of the JLC for seven years and stood down in 2013 citing reasons of ill-health, has denied the allegations.

Police opted not to pursue the case after a year-long inquiry was established at the behest of the Charity Commission, which found  “potentially questionable expenditure of £111,734” but failed to reach conclusions on several key allegations.
