Charity for young Jewish men in crisis appeals to community for support
The Boys Clubhouse provides a safe haven for Jewish teenagers in crisis and needs £750k to continue its work
A Hendon-based charity supporting vulnerable young Jewish men is running a campaign on 9 and 10 July to raise vital funds to continue its work.
Over half of the boys supported by The Boys Clubhouse in Hendon, established in 2009, have suffered from domestic or sexual abuse.
Since 2021 the organisation has supported over 180 young men, 65% of whom have come from dysfunctional homes and a third who came to them for help were homeless.
Karin Elkorchi, campaign co-ordinator tells Jewish News the Clubhouse is often the place of last resort for adolescents across the community who have become estranged from family and society.
“We deal with multiple cases of both domestic and sexual abuse, drug and alcohol addiction as well as many cases where the boys were homeless. The Boys Clubhouse provides a bespoke and holistic solution tailored to the individual needs of these young men. This includes providing housing, basic food and necessities, mental health and wellbeing, educational / vocational programs and provision of career and employment advancement.”
With the charity’s support, 34 young men have since moved on successfully with their lives and no longer require the organisation’s assistance.
The Boys Clubhouse aims to raise £750,000 over the 36 hours from 10am 9th July to 10pm 10th July.
