Organisation launched to support male Jewish domestic abuse victims

An organisation helping male Jewish domestic abuse victims has launched.

Kavod, which is seeking charitable status, was created by someone who goes by the pseudonym Mordy Pee (Jewish News has withheld his name due to active legal case), who asked Jewish Women’s Aid for help dealing with what he calls a “coercive relationship”.

Pee said: “I contacted JWA and met the first criteria – being Jewish –but failed the second criteria – being a woman. There was no support in the community for male victims.”

He added that JWA has helped his new charity by “providing policies and procedures so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel”.

According to latest government figures, 757,000 men in the UK suffer domestic abuse annually.

A spokesperson for JWA said: “Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, and whilst Jewish Women’s Aid provides specialist support for women only, we are very occasionally contacted by a Jewish man seeking support. When this happens we refer them to organisations with a wealth of experience in helping male victims, such as the UK charity Respect.

“We set up an introduction between Mordy and Respect so they could share their knowledge and experience of men’s domestic abuse services with him. If there is a professional service for male Jewish victims, we would be happy to refer to them.”
