Chief Rabbi honoured with freedom of Barnet

Chief Rabbi Mirvis addresses the rally on Sunday afternoon.

The Chief Rabbi will follow in the footsteps of his predecessor and Margaret Thatcher last night by being honoured with the Freedom of the London Borough of Barnet.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of motion proposed by Tory Eva Greenspan which recognised Ephraim Mirvis’ contribution in the “borough, nationally and internationally to the enhancement of the Jewish community and the promotion of interfaith understanding and community cohesion”.

The motion refers to his work at the helm of Kinloss including the creation of the Kinloss Learning Centre and adds: “As with his predecessor as Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks, it is the wish of the council to formally recognise these contributions and record the high esteem in which Ephraim Mirvis is held by the council and the community.”
