Chief: Scottish Church report ‘strained’ relations

Chief Rabbi Mirvis has delivered an historic address to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh.

It comes a year after the organisation ruffled feathers by issuing a report, called ‘The Inheritance of Abraham,’ which challenged the connection between the Jewish people and the land of Israel.

The Chief Rabbi’s speech touched upon both that relationship and the link between the Scottish Jewish community and the Church.

However, in a nod to last year’s debate, he warned that that there was “an urgent need for more meaningful and productive dialogue and cooperation between faiths” in Scotland.

“Unfortunately, last year’s report put a strain on Jewish-Christian relations in Scotland,” he said. “We need to confront these issues together and not sweep them under the carpet.”
