Tribe connects with Israel

Tribe took 27 Year 10 students to Jerusalem on a week-long trip as part of its Learn2Lead programme. The trip focused on strengthening participants’ connection to Israel and building on their sense of Jewish heritage and identity. Rabbi Yisroel Binstock, Tribe central rabbi and one of the leaders of the trip, said: “This trip has given participants a fantastic opportunity to engage with and connect to one of Judaism’s holiest places. I hope they will continue to build on this inspiring week once they are back in their communities.”

Educators learn from Yad Vashem

Yad Vashem hosted a week-long seminar for 21 educators from Jewish schools and organisations in the UK. Sponsored by Yad Vashem – UK Foundation, the aim of the annual seminar is to help teachers and educators face the challenges of today when teaching the Holocaust. Sessions included Holocaust teaching in the shadow of Holocaust distortion, trivialisation in the media, dealing with Holocaust denial, as well as tools to teach the Shoah to different age groups.

Israeli equalities minister meets WIZO UK and ZF

Gila Gamliel, Israeli minister for social equality, met WIZO UK and ZF representatives during a visit to London. She talked about the motivating factors behind her career in politics and the daily challenges she faces campaigning for equality.

Norwood’s creatives raise cash through sale of artwork

Art lovers raised much-needed funds for Norwood’s creative workshops for adults with learning disabilities at Western Marble Arch Synagogue last week. The Norwood Art Sale featured work from established UK and international artists, while work from artists living in Norwood’s homes were also displayed for sale.

Vince Cable kicks off Forum for Jewish Leadership lecture series

The Forum for Jewish Leadership’s (FJL) business, politics and philanthropy lecture series kicked off at the BT Tower, with guest speakers including former Coalition Secretary of State for Business, Sir Vince Cable. Dalia Meshulam, FJL’s director of programming, said: “It was our privilege to be joined by a truly outstanding and highly diverse group of speakers. Each speaker has made, and continues to make, meaningful contributions to broader society.”
