Jeremy Corbyn signing the Book of Commitment

The Labour leader has joined people from across the political spectrum in signing the Book of Commitment to remember the Holocaust.

Jeremy Corbyn signed the book, alongside hundreds of other MPs, posting on Twitter, ‘The tragedy and brutality and loss must never be repeated.’

He wrote inside the book: “To remember the Holocaust is a vital way of saying to all generations that the tragedy, brutality and loss must not be repeated, We must ensure all understand this and we can all play a role in preventing future tragedies.

Of those who have signed the Book of Commitment, include Conservative MPs, Chancellor George Osborne, Education Secretary Nicky Morgan and Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust issues, Sir Eric Pickles, Labour shadow ministers, Lucy Powell and Hilary Benn, Scottish National Party leader, Nicholas Sturgeon, former Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg.

Nicky Morgan said it was “an important reminder to all of us that there is no excuse for standing by.”

Lucy Powell MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Education, said: “It is so important that we continue to learn the lesson of this awful history. The lessons are as relevant today as they were in the immediate aftermath. Keep up the good work in ensuring the next generation learns from the last.”

Eric Pickles commented: “While we honour those who stood up and made a difference during those dark days by sheltering and rescuing Jews, we also need to think today, in another era threatened by evil and intolerance around the world, how we can do our bit to stand up for our common values.”

The book allows Members of Parliament to pledge a commitment support Holocaust Memorial Day, honoring the victims and the Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people.
