Corney would consider selling Oldham Athletic

Oldham Athletic owner and chairman Simon Corney

Oldham Athletic’s Jewish owner Simon Corney has said he would be willing to sell the League One club, while also admitting he would still have no problems in signing convicted rapist Ched Evans.

After deciding at the last minute not to sign Evans due to widespread public condemnation and alleged death threats being made to family members of both the club’s board and sponsors, Corney, who’s also the club chairman, told the Oldham Chronicle: “I’ve had enough, it’s no secret, I’ve been here for 12 years and I just don’t have the same interest any more.”

Adding to those comments on the club’s website, he said: “My commitment to the club is total, [but] if a buyer for the club comes forward who is able to take things on to another level then I will consider selling.”

And saying he would still have no qualms in signing the player, he said: “I still think the right thing would have been to take him, I really do.”
