Couple raises £4,000 for Camp Simcha with song in memory of premature son
They have raised £4,000 by producing a song in memory of their premature-born son, who died five weeks after his birth
A couple from Hendon has raised £4,000 for Camp Simcha in less than a week with a song in memory of their premature-born son Avidan, who died five weeks after his birth.
Gabriella and Eitan Freilich released a song last Sunday called Lo Iyrah to mark Avidan’s twin brother Nathaniel’s brit milah.
Avidan was born prematurely at 28 weeks, along with Nathaniel. Despite both boys doing well, Avidan passed away unexpectedly in November.
All the money raised will go towards Camp Simcha’s special care baby project, which offers services such as hospital parking and transport, support for siblings, and emergency hospital bags with items to care for premature babies.
“As a former volunteer I know the difference that Camp Simcha makes to families when they have a sick child,” said Eitan.
“We were lucky enough to have supportive family and friends, but there are things that unless you’ve experienced it, just aren’t thought about: incubator covers, premature nappies, premature bottles, milk delivery, premature clothes, the preemie octopus.”
Gabriella added: “The neonatal experience is often compared to a rollercoaster, a metaphor we can very much confirm. One day the baby might be moved up to special care, the next they can be back in intensive care. At times we wanted to be left alone, at times we wanted support.”
After spending 110 days in hospital Avidan’s brother, Nathaniel, is now home. “He is a happy, healthy little child ready to bring his goodness to the world,” said Eitan.
