Crowdfunder campaign for baby’s cancer treatment reaches £106k

A couple have secured enough funding for two of five life-saving treatments for their 18-month old baby boy at a specialist hospital in Barcelona.

Nick and Rachel Samuel have been stunned by the outpouring of community support since the launch of a crowdfunding appeal for their son Robin.

As reported by Jewish News, Robin’s parents have been frantically fundraising for a life-saving course of cutting-edge immunotherapy in Barcelona to help boost his immune system, which will train it to recognise cancerous cells in the future.

For the best chance of his survival without additional health complications, Robin  needs five rounds of the treatment – only available via a specialist doctor in Spain.

They still need to reach £300k for all five, but since that first public appeal, the initial 975 donors and £60k have soared to 1,882 supporters raising more than £100k, enough for the first two.

Nick Samuel told Jewish News he was “doing the transfer AS I WRITE THIS!”

Describing themselves as “a little worse for wear” from the pressure, they say Robin is “definitely doing well”.

“We’re continuing to push this hard, and the community is being incredible.”

Family and friends have run several fundraising events, supported by the Intrepid Bakers and The Great Northern Railway Tavern, both in Hornsey, north London, who they say have been “overwhelmingly supportive.”

In January, not long after his first birthday, Robin Samuel was diagnosed with high-risk MYCN-amplified Neuroblastoma – an extremely rare and aggressive childhood cancer.
