Dayan Gelley appointed to head Beth Din
Dayan Menachem Gelley has been formally appointed as Rosh Beth Din, or head of the Court of the Chief Rabbi, after a seven year vacancy.
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, announcing the appointment, praised Dayan Gelley’s “impressive knowledge of Jewish law, coupled with his humanity and sensitivity”.
Dayan Gelley was born in Gateshead and studied at Sunderland Yeshiva, where his father served as Rosh Yeshiva, and Ponevezh Yeshiva in Israel, training in the US and Israel before joining the London Beth Din in 1993.
