The world’s oldest medical student finally received her doctorate this week, 80 years after leaving medical school, writes Zak Rosenfeld.

Ingeborg Syllm-Rapoport was not allowed to graduate in 1938 because she is Jewish.

Now, aged 102, she has finally completed her oral exam on the study of newborns at Hamburg University.

The university’s Kerstein Graupner said: “Ingeborg stressed in her acceptance speech she had gone through the effort of getting a degree at her age, not for herself, but for all the others who had suffered injustice during the Third Reich.”
