Edgware shopping centre ‘shocked’ at swastika vandalism

A shopping centre in Edgware has covered up a swastika daubed in its toilets, saying they were ‘shocked and dismayed’ to find the symbol.

The Broadwalk concealed the ‘offensive graffiti’, after it was reported by Jewish News on Wednesday. The Swastika, a symbol used by the Nazis, was etched onto a panel in a cubicle, inside the male toilets of the centre.

A spokesperson for the Broadwalk said: “As an active member of the local community, we were shocked and dismayed to find offensive graffiti in the male toilets and have taken swift action to remove it.”

“The symbol in question was etched into a panel which we have completely and securely covered with a wooden board and we will replace the panel itself as soon as possible. We will not accept any form of vandalism in the centre. Anyone caught will be banned from the centre and will be reported to the police.”

A swastika was also found and removed in the same location in March 2017.
