Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has praised the ‘outstanding’ role of British faith schools during a visit to Yavneh College.

Morgan said she was impressed by the Borehamwood secondary school’s combined faith-based education, centred around “fundamental British values”.

She added: “It is important young people are are taught and discuss fundamental British values, which a school like Yavneh absolutely subscribes too – as do most faith schools in this country. There are many outstanding faith schools of all different religions. They are doing a great job of educating our young people.”

Morgan watched history, English, science and Hebrew classes taking place during a tour of the school on Thursday with headteacher Spencer Lewis, president Benjamin Perl and Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden. She concluded her visit by answering sixthform students’ questions in a special assembly, speaking of her delight at being able to “give approval” to Yavneh’s new primary school.
