Employment charity joins Jewish Leadership Council

A Jewish charity helping people find work and set up businesses has joined the Jewish Leadership Council, becoming the 32nd member.

The admission of Work Avenue, based in Finchley, is one of the first acts of new JLC chairman Jonathan Goldstein, and recognises the ten-year growth of an organisation that began life as TrainE-TraidE.

It is headed by Shraga Zaltzman, who was awarded an MBE for services to enterprise and employment in the Jewish community last year, after the organisation said it had helped about 8,000 people find jobs or set up on their own.

Work Avenue chairman Mark Morris said: “Ensuring that people are able to stand on their own two feet is fundamental to society and a core Jewish value. We are delighted to have joined the JLC and through this relationship look forward to helping many more people in the future.”

Goldstein, who took over from Sir Mick Davis last month, said: “Employment is a fundamental part of any community, and ensuring everybody has access to work is vital.”

He added: “Work Avenue has made an enormous contribution to many within our community and, through joining the JLC, community organisations stand to gain much from their input and expertise.”
