Exclusive: 67% of callers to mental health charity cite Israel war as the trigger

Jewish mental health charity Jami says 67% of calls in one day were recorded as triggered by the Israel-Hamas war.

The organisation tells Jewish News that whilst their current data collection methods “haven’t been able to reflect the specific number of calls being made to us due to the outbreak of the war”, this is something “we will be collecting from now on and future data will demonstrate this further.”

A spokesperson from Jami added:

“A leading mental health organisation, who works closely with us at Jami and members of the Jewish community, has referred people to us in distress and stated that they have recorded 5 people experiencing a decline in their mental health and are in ‘crisis’ and have cited the war specifically as a trigger.

“We anticipate that the number of people calling us citing the war as a direct reason for their mental health concerns and decline, will rise daily, with yesterday seeing 67% of callers discussing the detrimental impact of the war on their mental health and wellbeing.
