Board of Deputies and Lambeth Palace explore ways to deepen community ties

Nearly 30 Jewish and Christian leaders brainstormed ways of enriching their work locally and creating new community partnerships.

Jewish leaders met Church of England counterparts as part an initiative launched by the Board of Deputies and Lambeth Palace.

Participants heard about about the Church of England’s work followed by a presentation about the Jewish community and the work of the Board of Deputies, made by chief executive Michael Wegier. They also shared best practice and discussed ways of bringing communities closer and overcoming communal hurdles.

Amanda Bowman, vice president of the Board of Deputies, said she was delighted to be working with Lambeth Palace on the initiative: “It was clear to see how valuable it was bringing people together.”

Siriol Davies, national coordinator of presence and engagement for the Church of England said it was hugely valuable for Anglican priests to be introduced to a range of Jewish local leaders and Board of Deputies representatives. She said: “I am hopeful that these new connections will lead to deeper understandings of each other in all our rich diversity.”

A second day of engagement will take place with northern communities in 2023.
