Faith minister visits National Holocaust Museum and meets survivors

Minister for Faith Lord Bourne visited the National Holocaust Centre and Museum in Newark to meet with survivors and see the memorial gardens as part of a tour to explore how best to support diverse communities.

The minister was told how the Holocaust centre acted as a place of testimony learning for communities of all faiths and none across the UK.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local government has funded the digitising of ‘The Journey’ within the centre, an immersive first-person experience following the story of a child who came to England on the Kindertransport.

It is the only such exhibition specifically tailored for primary school children in Europe and Bourne later described it as “a befitting tribute to the survivors of the Holocaust”.

Dr James Smith, president of the National Holocaust Centre, thanked Bourne for the visit, saying: “I’m so pleased you saw The Journey and hope that we can provide the learning and understanding for many more children.”
