Former FZY year-coursers who perished in Hamas attack remembered
Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue hosted a special event
FZY ran an event earlier this week to bring its members and alumni together to remember and pay tribute to the atrocities happening in Israel.
The event, which took place at Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue and hosted 120 people, plus more on Zoom, started with a talk from former Mazkir Samuel Green.
A Brit currently living in Tel Aviv with his family, Samuel gave a thought-provoking recap of the events of Saturday 7 October, and offered advice to the audience on how they can support the people in Israel and the Jews in the diaspora who have been affected.
Current and previous FZY members shared emotive eulogies, including some of their favourite memories from their time on their gap year with the two Israeli tzofim killed in the terror attacks. FZY’s Israeli slicha also gave an emotional tribute to her friends and family in Israel, and thanked the movement for their support over the past week and a half.
To complete the event, members old and new were called up to say tehillim for the fallen soldiers, those still being held hostage, and the IDF. The event finished with an extremely emotional rendition of the Hatikvah and candle lighting for those lives that have been lost in the recent terror attacks.
At a time where it is so important to support and love one another in the community, the FZY movement team brought their aims of Magen and Tzedakah to life and built an environment where current members and alumni could come together as proud Zionists.
