Former MP appointed to review special education

Former MP Lee Scott has been appointed by the government to conduct a review of special education services in Britain.

In an effort to increase understanding of the impact of policy on the experiences and outcomes of young people with special educational needs and disability (SEND), the former member for Ilford North will visit schools and colleges and hold discussions with parents and young people as well as organisations providing support. He will report back to the Secretary of State in summer 2016

A statement from the Department for Education said: “Lee Scott has accepted an invitation by the Secretary of State, acting as an adviser, to develop our understanding of the experience parents of children with SEND, and young people with SEND, have of the education system.”

He told the Jewish News: “I am delighted to do this and will be visiting all aspects of this vital area before doing a full report for the Secretary of State, it is an area that I have been involved in for a number of years and will be visiting schools across all faiths.”

Scott, who narrowly lost his seat at last year’s General Election, is expected to consult with charities including Norwood and Kisharon during the process.
