Overview

Since 1701 the Sephardi Community has been a key component of British Jewish Community life. Today it is just as relevant and continuing work carried out by the various activities and services provided by the S&P Sephardi Community require additional voluntary funding.

The community is growing and is ambitious, with exciting plans for the Kahal (Community) , including offering more education, lectures, programmes, cultural exchanges and a packed calendar of social events for all ages and interests; and there is the desire to provide upgraded, accessible and more comfortable facilities.

There is a great desire from both the Rabbinical staff and Trustee Board, supported by the staff, to to reach out to all Sephardim and to preserve, share and celebrate the rich heritage and traditions; ensuring that they can be enjoyed and cherished by all and for generations to come.

A fundraising consultant has been working with the S&P Sephardi Community since early 2016 and has created the framework for continued successful fundraising – especially through Major Donor activity. The new role of Fundraising Manger (part-time) will carry on this work and be responsible for the day to day fundraising activity.

A new CEO is currently undertaking an organisational review and a vibrant and fundraising function is a key component of the plans for the charity. In addition, there is an exciting and unique opportunity to potentially play an important role in the HLF Bevis Marks project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To create and deliver a fundraising strategy to ensure the annual voluntary fundraising target is met
  • To be responsible for managing and co-ordinating the existing and future fundraising activities of the S&P Sephardi Community providing a consistent umbrella approach to fundraising across the whole of the S&P Sephardi Community
  • To support the Senior Rabbi and the Fundraising Committee in generating income for the S&P Sephardi Community
  • To work with the CEO, the programming and marketing department and other key colleagues in ensuring fundraising opportunities at events and through programming are maximised.

Tasks

  • Produce regular fundraising activities, including the annual Kal Nidrae appeal, the Legacy campaign and any prospective fundraising events, which fit into the fundraising strategy.
  • Manage and grow the Patron’s Circle and Supporter’s Circle ensuring all members receive the appropriate recognition, communication and correspondence, invitation to special events and wider S&P events
  • Arranging meetings of the Fundraising committee ensuring actions are recorded and updated and followed up.
  • Manage, develop and co-ordinate the prospect list and a series of approaches to prospects in conjunction with the fundraising committee and the Senior Rabbi
  • Prepare fundraising reports using the shulcloud database (or any future fundraising database), in conjunction with the Finance department, for various committees and Board meetings
  • Be the main conduit of fundraising information and communication for the S&P Sephardi Community, keeping appropriate logs of communications between prospects, donors, lay and Rabbonim.
  • Research and write funding applications to potential Trust and Foundations for relevant grants
  • Work with the Marketing team to produce relevant fundraising events.

Person Specification:

General:

We are looking for a self-motivated, reliable and responsible individual with good organisational and planning ability and excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.

Interpersonal skills are essential; particularly good communication, patience and building of trust. A major component of the role will be working with and supporting the Senior Rabbi, Board members, senior volunteers and the CEO in generating income for the charity.

Must haves:

  • A track record of successful income generation through charity fundraising.
  • Experience of running fundraising campaigns, appeals, events
  • Experience of stewarding donors
  • Experience of using and maintaining a fundraising database
  • Experience of working with volunteer fundraisers
  • A good understanding of the UK Jewish community and the UK charity sector.
  • Have a good understanding of current fundraising methodologies and best practice, particularly around data protection / GDPR regulation.
