A class of high school students marked the end of their German coursework by posting a picture on Twitter of them doing a Nazi salute – and their teacher joined in.

Dave Worland, headteacher of Cathedral High School in Indiana, apologised for the image, which features six graduating pupils doing the seig heil.

He said: “These are students that have been taking German for four years.

“The key to it is correcting it, recognising it when we make a mistake.

“‘From my seat as the principal, I would reach out personally and apologise.”

According to Mail Online, the students and their parents will be required to attend a session in sensitivity training.
