Golda Meir’s great-great nephew was killed at kibbutz Nahal Oz on Sunday. Hadar Kamah, 24, was a soldier in the reconnaissance unit Sayeret Matkal which was sent to rescue the citizens of the kibbutz after it was infiltrated and seized by Hamas terrorists.

Gideon Meir, Golda’s grandson received the news of his cousin’s death in London, where he has been staying since attending the JN launch of the film Golda. “To receive this tragic news as I watch the horrific events in Israel is unbearable,” said Meir, who has been unable to return home because of flight suspensions. “To be here alone, looking at the TV…seeing the people in Israel under siege, with so many dead or held hostage…I have no words. I just want to be with my family.”

Hadar was the great-great grandson of Golda’s older sister Shana Kreingold who died 51 years ago. The premier was attending her funeral on September 8 1972, and missed the funerals of the 11 Israeli Olympians murdered in Munich, which took place on the same day.
