Hampstead shul hosts training sessions for Ukrainian refugees

The initiative comes after the community put on a concert which raised £10,000 for World Jewish relief's emergency appeal for the country

Training sessions for Ukrainian refugees were held last month at Hampstead Synagogue’s Community Centre.

Camden Caremark in conjunction with Camden Council put on sessions over four days aimed at helping refugees absorb into the UK community and to support those in need of immediate care.

In June, the synagogue hosted a Summer Concert for Ukraine that raised over £10,000 for World Jewish Relief’s Emergency Appeal.  The recording, watched by more than 2,000 people, can be seen at theus.tv/summer-concert-for-ukraine.

WJR’s president Henry Grunwald QC thanked Hampstead Synagogue and the Shabbaton Choir for putting on the evening, and paid tribute to the Jewish community’s support for Ukrainians.

“The British Jewish community has been fantastic in its support so far for what World Jewish Relief has done, and is doing in Ukraine, the surrounding countries and the UK. Thank you for helping to support Ukrainians.”

Gabriel Herman, who produced the concert for the synagogue, said:  “Our congregation takes its social responsibility very seriously and are delighted to help Ukrainians at this very challenging time.  Historically our membership comprised of refugees so we empathise with their plight and that is why our interfaith work is so important to us.”
