A Jewish woman engaged to one of Hitler’s great nephews broke it off after she learned of his family lineage, it has emerged.

The engagement was revealed by one of three American brothers whose father was William Hitler, the Nazi dictator’s nephew, who was born in Liverpool but left for the US in 1938 and subsequently fought the Germans in the US Navy.

It was an American propaganda coup, branded as ‘Hitler versus Hitler’ by US authorities, who allowed him to change his surname to Hiller in 1946, and later to Stuart-Houston.

Alexander Stuart-Houston, 68, a retired psychotherapist and one of the surviving brothers, revealed the would-be marriage with the unnamed Jewish woman when questioned by reporters from the German newspaper Bild last week.

Stuart-Houston did not reveal which brother had been due to marry but made the point when asked if the three of them had a secret pact never to have children, in order to end Hitler’s genetic line, a pact he denied.

He said the brothers have refused interviews to-date and would continue to do so, adding: “Not for all the money in the world.”
