Holy-day! Madonna is confirmed to perform at Eurovision in Tel Aviv
Global icon to perform after Netta Barzilai earned Israel its fourth win at the Eurovision Song Contest last year
Madonna fans will Cherish this: The Queen of Pop will perform at this year’s Eurovision final in Tel Aviv, next month.
Israel’s public broadcaster KAN confirmed the 60-year-old icon will make an appearance on stage, with the expected $1million (£770,000) cost being met by Israeli-Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams.
Her Eurovision gig will mark the fourth time Madonna has performed in the Holy Land, following on from shows in 1993, 2009 and 2012.
Madonna has also enjoyed personal trips to Israel previously, having become involved with Kabbalah following an introduction from her friend, Jewish actress Sandra Bernhard.
Securing the pop diva is something of a coup for philanthropist Adams, who said hosting Eurovision and bringing over Madonna will help boost Israel’s reputation around the world.
Speaking at the INTV conference in Jerusalem last month, he said: “It’s a tremendous way to boost tourism. I think the more people we bring here, the more people see our true nature, the true beauty of our country and our people, and the freedom, openness, tolerance and safety of our country.”
Netta Barzilai earned Israel its fourth win at the Eurovision Song Contest last year, meaning the 2019 grand finale will be held in Tel Aviv on May 28.
