Hundreds undress in Israeli desert to highlight Dead Sea erosion
The 'provocative' photoshoot from artist Spencer Tunick references the Biblical story of Lot
Hundreds of participants undressed to take part in a nude photoshoot by renowned American artist Spencer Tunick in the middle of the Israeli desert on Sunday.
The photoshoot featured white body paint on the nude volunteers to emulate salt pillars which reference the Dead Sea’s natural springs and the Biblical account of Lot’s wife, who was turned into a pillar of salt.
The installation was part of a campaign to raise awareness about the need to preserve the nearby Dead Sea, he added.
Tunick has worked with naked bodies for the last ten years, photographing them or filming video footage of them and their interaction with the environment.
It was his third artistic installation in the Dead Sea region.
