IN PICTURES: Norwood junior ride and run

A total of 300 young athletes raced to victory in Norwood’s 18th annual Junior Bike Ride and Run Ride Run Duathlon on Sunday.

The event raised around £35,000 for the UK’s largest Jewish children, family and learning disability charity. It was held at Elstree’s Aldenham Country Park, with families staying after the ride to enjoy the scenery and sunshine. Competitors ranged in age from six to 16 and, with cycle routes of five and 10 miles, steep hills and tough grassy terrain, it was no easy challenge.

Jesse Anthony, 15, was first across the finish line for the Run Ride Run Duathlon – retaining his title from last year’s event. Jacob and Jonah Stanton raised more than £1,000 on the Junior Bike Ride.

Jonah, nine, said: “A few bits were really hard but I kept going and felt really proud of myself when I crossed the finish line.” Jacob, 12, did the 10-mile ride. He said: “It’s always a really fun morning.”
