Interfaith group recognised for educating about Srebrenica genocide
Joseph Interfaith Foundation is recognised for its work taking rabbis and imams to the site of the 1995 mass killing
A foundation that takes delegations of rabbis and imams out to the site of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre has been recognised for its interfaith work.
The Joseph Interfaith Foundation, which works with the largest synagogues and mosques in the UK, was recognised at a London ceremony organised by the charity Remembering Srebrenica.
“The mind-set of those who committed the atrocities and genocide in Srebrenica was no different from the mind-set of those who destroyed six million Jewish people in the Holocaust,” said the foundation’s director Mehri Niknam, accepting the award.
“That is why I pledged to bring this to the attention of the Jewish community and teach its lessons to young people.”
Remembering Srebrenica chair Dr Waqar Azmi said: “In the wake of an increase in hate crime, we must remind everyone of the past and stress the importance of focusing on what we have in common.”
