Israel take control of Davis Cup tie

Israel have taken a 2-0 lead in their Davis Cup Group I tie against Slovenia after Dudi Sela and Amir Weintraub both won their singles rubbers on Friday.

The first meeting between the countries in 44 years, Israel have lost the previous three encounters, though are now firm favourites to end that losing steak.

First up at the Drive Inn arena in Tel Aviv was Sela, and he made light work of his match, defeating Nik Razborsek in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2, in just under two hours.

Weintraub then took centre stage, and while he was given more of a challenge from Grega Zemlja, won in four sets, 6-3, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 in just over three hours.

They can wrap up the victory on Saturday in the doubles, when Sela, in the absence of Yoni Erlich, will partner Edan Leshem as they take on Aljaz Radinski and David Gorsic.
