Founders of Israeli charity helping children with cancer scoop top award

Founders of the Israeli charity Zichron Menachem scooped up a top award at a conference in Jerusalem.

Couple Miri and Chaim Ehrental, who founded the children’s charity nearly 30 years ago, received the prestigious Israel Prize on Thursday evening.

The charity supports children and young people in Israel diagnosed with cancer and their families, including tutoring, camps, counselling and respite trips.

Separately, the charity’s UK branch is also one of the largest collectors of hair in the community to make custom wigs for women and children free of charge

The pair started Zichron Menachem in 1990  after their eldest son Menachem died at the age of 15 after he was diagnosed with leukemia.

“After Menachem died, we knew we had a job to do,” Miri said. “We wanted to use our knowledge and experience to help others.”

Since, Zichron Menachem has become the largest organisation in Israel helping nearly 48,000 children with cancer and their families.
