Israeli drone becomes first to land by remote at international airport

An Israeli drone last week became the first unmanned aerial vehicle in the world to land by remote control at an international airport.

The Heron UAV from Israel Aerospace Industries landed at Ben-Gurion Airport using technology that lets drones integrate into airspace alongside long-haul commercial flights.

The entire flight, including landing, was controlled from a station in the country’s north.

The Heron has been used in a military and intelligence capacity for years by the IDF and the air forces of other nations, such as Germany.

It can withstand severe weather conditions, carry multiple payloads and transmit real-time information to units on the ground.
