Israeli Embassy in UK aims to make 1,000 meals to mark World Food Day

Event is being run in partnership with Israeli chef Eran Tibi and City Harvest food bank, with meals to be distributed to a number of different charities

The Israeli Embassy in London has organised a day of volunteering to provide food for those who need it most, as part of World Food Day 2020.

The event, in partnership with Israeli chef Eran Tibi – of the Southark restaurant, Bala Baya – and City Harvest food bank, aims to make 1,000 meals which will then be distributed to a number of different charities.

Volunteers will meet in Hackney on 15 October to help cook and then serve food in three different shifts throughout the day, providing warm and nutritious meals for women’s shelters, children’s charities, community centres, the elderly, those facing food poverty and soup kitchens.

The Embassy of Israel’s Deputy Ambassador Sharon Bar-li said, “Preparing these delicious Israeli meals for those in need represents the shared values of Israeli and British society, both with strong social and community spirit, whilst creating awareness of food security, sustainability and health.”

The City Harvest food bank said: “City Harvest is excited to be working in partnership with The Embassy of Israel and Eran Tibi on this great World Food Day initiative to make as many meals as possible with great volunteers to feed those in need in London.”
