Israeli man shot dead in West Bank ‘terror attack’

An Israeli man has died and another was wounded after a gunman opened fire at a car outside a West Bank settlement in what police said was a “terror attack”.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the two men were driving along a dirt road outside the West Bank settlement of Dolev when their car was struck.

According to IDF spokesperson, a Palestinian stopped the two men, and asked if there is water in a nearby spring – before shooting at close range.

One man was initially said to be critically wounded, but theIsraeli military said later he died from his wounds at a hospital. The second man was lightly wounded.

Mr Rosenfeld said the area near the scene of the attack was cordoned off.

“Forces are currently searching the area for suspects. This is being treated at as a terror attack,” he said.

Israel saw a wave of so-called “lone wolf” attacks last year by Palestinians using guns, knives and vehicles in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the West Bank. Police say it is difficult to stop such attacks because assailants act on their own, without working through established militant groups.

The violence has largely tapered off, but two attacks last month wounded severalIsraelis, including two paramilitary police officers.
