Israeli PM targets Iranians on Twitter with new Farsi account

Israel’s prime minister has launched a Twitter account in Persian language, Farsi, to reach out to the Iranian public.

In his first tweet, Benjamin Netanyahu immediately criticised the ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and various world powers. Mr Netanyahu has been a fierce critic of the emerging deal.

Mr Netanyahu’s office said the Farsi account will publish content similar to his English and Hebrew accounts to engage directly with the Iranian people.

The Israeli leader has a popular following on Twitter and often tweets videos and photos with messages critical of the Iranian government and nuclear negotiations.

Twitter, Facebook, and other popular social media sites are technically banned in Iran. Nonetheless, many Iranians use Twitter through proxy servers, and Iranian leaders often tweet official statements.
