Israel’s finance minister stresses Israel and Britain’s ‘important’ trade partnership

Israel’s finance Minister lauded Israel and Britain’s “important” trade partnership at the Jerusalem Post’s House of Lords drinks reception on Wednesday, in front of business owners, politicians and diplomats.

Avigdor Lieberman – who was appointed to the role in 2021 – spoke of his “interesting and useful” meetings with Chancellor Rishi Sunak and the Governor of the Federal bank during his visit.

Despite Israel’s three lockdowns, Lieberman highlighted Israel’s booming economy which has reportedly grown by 8.2% since 2021.

Whilst overlooking the Thames, Lord Ian Austin said that: “bringing our two great countries closer together, by boosting prosperity, and creating jobs is the best answer there can be to the anti-Israel obsessives.”

He then paid tribute to Labour Friends of Israel Director Michael Rubin who he claimed has one of the hardest jobs in parliament.

He emphasised Britain and Israel’s strong bilateral relationship, claiming that the UK is Israel’s third largest trading partner. He noted that one in seven of all drugs dispensed by the NHS come from Israel, and spoke of the increasing prevalence of Israeli tech in British businesses.

Reflecting on the recent string of terror attacks in Israel that has left 11 people dead, Lord Stuart Polak, President of Conservative Friends of Israel said, that working towards peace “is always going to antagonise those who do not want peace… but we need to be strong.”
