‘I’ve benefited more than I could have imagined’, say graduates of ORT mentoring scheme

Over 300 Year 12 students took part in the ORT JUMP Mentoring Programme graduation this week.

Established by the ORT charity in 2009, the programme works with a variety of industries to help British students JUMP-start their careers.

This year, pupils from across 14 schools, their teachers, mentors and parents were in attendance at the graduation event at JW3 in north London.

The evening was a celebration of the students completing the programme, having explored career paths with their mentors and submitted a ‘creative piece’ reflecting on their experience.

Mentee, Beth Anthony, spoke about how inspiring it was to be mentored by lawyer, Marina Simmons, and how she has gained the knowledge and skills to apply for law at university: “We looked at CVs, personal statements, and setting up a LinkedIn profile, which are skills that most schools do not necessarily teach. I was also fortunate enough to spend a day at Marina’s law firm. I truly cannot recommend the ORT JUMP programme enough. I have benefitted from it more than I could have imagined.

Mia Lyons, ORT JUMP Mentoring programme manager said: “We are extremely proud of our hard-working graduates and so thankful to their schools and our wonderful mentors who make the ORT JUMP Mentoring Programme the success that it is.

“Now in its 14th year, we’ve seen thousands of students grow in confidence, having gained vital workplace skills and explored suitable career paths with their mentors, in their chosen industry.”

All students were called to the stage to receive a certificate, with prizes awarded for the best creative pieces. The winners were: Nadav Gordon, JCoSS, Dina Benouaich, Hasmonean High School for Girls, Rivka Gabay, JFS and Eliza Demaj, Parliament Hill School.
